District items of interest:
The next regularly scheduled school board meeting is September 30, 2019 at 6:00 pm, Superintendent’s Office.
Enrollment on count day = 793. This is very low considering our budget was built on 810 students and that we ended the school year last year with 814.
Ensure a school culture where every student is respected, safe, academically challenged and engaged:
Bridgeport High School/WVC selected: The Community College Research Center at Teachers College, Columbia University and the Aspen Institute’s College Excellence Program have joined forces with state higher education agencies in Florida, Ohio, and Washington to conduct research on how high schools and community colleges can create dual enrollment programs that support college access and success for underrepresented students. Based on visits to pairs of high schools and community colleges identified as highly effective in serving underrepresented students in several states, we will produce a “dual enrollment playbook” detailing the structures and practices of these pairings. Specifically, we identified HS-CC pairings that: a) served a substantial number of underrepresented students of color, and b) had relatively strong outcomes overall and especially strong outcomes for underrepresented students of color specifically. The outcomes we focused on for this analysis were students’ college course pass rates (while in high school), their college-level credit accumulation (while in high school), rate of college enrollment immediately after high school, and persistence in their first year of college.
Ensure rigorous and relevant learning opportunities:
ECEAP pre-school starts Wednesday, September 11. There will be two pre-school classrooms each with morning and afternoon sessions. We are currently developing a fenced in little tyke playground at the front entrance of the school which is close to the pre-school classrooms. Keep in mind this will not be the front entrance in about 3 months.
Ensure high quality and effective personnel in all positions
We continue to look for more bus drivers. Currently we (3) three drivers. If you know anyone that may be interested please have them contact the district office.
We have added an additional ½ time custodian to clean the four portable classroom buildings and have placed Rogelio in the lunch rooms to help with the mopping and clean up.
Ensure strong partnerships with students, families, and community:
Pre-school parent meeting Monday September 9 at 6 pm. Preschool starts Wednesday September 11, 2019.
Due to the lack of parking the City has agreed to let us mow off and paint parking lines on the small field just on the other side of the cemetery for student parking.
Ensure district resources support the strategic plan

The electrical, fire protection and plumbing rough in is ongoing at all three schools. The ceiling in the Middle School gym was installed this week and the windows in the gym are finished up. The Middle School gym floor is currently being stripped and refinished in order for the new bleachers to be installed at the end of the month.
