Reduced Idling = Healthier Kids

Healthy kids. That’s the goal of the school zone anti-idling campaign sponsored by the Washington State Department of Ecology. Idling your vehicle near schools exposes children to harmful pollutants. Cars and trucks idling while dropping off and picking up kids puts pollutants right into the school yard where the children are playing. The risk of asthma, heart and lung disease, and lung cancer are increased by car and truck exhaust. And children are especially vulnerable. The next time you’re in a school zone, please turn off your engine if you’ll be waiting for more than 30 seconds. It will save you gas. And, it’s a simple way to help keep our kids healthy.
